Various premiums for basic insurance

With basic insurance, there are differences in the premiums depending on the canton and health insurance company. But that does not mean that the basic insurance with the highest premiums is always the best. The cheapest health insurance can also be selected for this insurance, as benefits are generally regulated by law.

Basic insurance is compulsory

Since the introduction of the Health Insurance Act (KVG), basic insurance has been compulsory for everyone in Switzerland. Within this basic insurance, all benefits are the same for all health insurances without exception and have been defined by the legislator. On the other hand, the premiums at the health insurance companies can be very different, which is why a comparison is definitely worthwhile. It is also worth knowing that every health insurance company is obliged to include someone in the basic insurance.

What benefits does the basic insurance include?

The basic insurance covers illnesses, accidents and maternity. This includes a defined catalog of services. These basic insurance benefits include treatment in a hospital in the canton in which you live. In terms of content, these are all necessary examinations, treatments and care measures. The basic insurance also covers necessary therapeutic measures on medical advice. This includes measures from the fields of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, etc. Other services that are covered are patient transport, rescue operations, spa treatments, drugs and medication and alternative medicine.

Favorable premiums for basic insurance

Anyone who takes out basic insurance should definitely make a premium comparison. Choosing the cheapest health insurance can save a lot of money. If you want to save even more with the premiums, you can also choose a higher deductible. 300, 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 or 2,500 francs are possible here. This means that you first have to pay the selected amount yourself until the health insurance company pays the costs. After exceeding the deductible, a deductible of ten percent is due on all other costs. Here, however, the maximum limit for children is CHF 350 and for adults it is CHF 700 per year. No deductible or deductible costs are charged during pregnancy.
